Halloween costume ideas … from the movies!

So, you want a cool, easy-to-put-together last minute Halloween costume that doesn’t involve cutting holes in a white sheet? Why not look to the movies for inspiration? Here are five easy costume ideas inspired by classic movie characters …

- Raul Duke (aka Hunter Thompson) from “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”
This is a pretty easy one, and the best part is that you get to act like a drugged-out, fast-talking Johnny Depp all night. Just grab a Hawaiian shirt, a fisherman’s hat, some big shades and a cigarette holder (or a Virginia Slim).

- Amelie from “Amelie”
Oh, what 22-35-year-old American doesn’t love Amelie. All you really need here is that haircut, or a wig, a raincoat, an umbrella and that stupid grin. (Yes, I hate Amelie, but she’s an easy costume)

- Dr. Peter Venkman from “Ghostbusters”
Love “Ghostbusters” but don’t have a proton pack? No problem. Just use a black backpack stuffed with - whatever. Buy some khaki painter’s duds from Wal-Mart, or an old flight suit from the local Army surplus store, and a big ol’ Nerf gun. Wear glasses to go as Egon Spengler.

- The Dude from “The Big Lebowski”
Abide just like The Dude with one of the easiest uniforms to put together. Grab an old robe and put it on under a dirty T-shirt, shorts and some flip-flops. For those clean-cut folks out there, you’ll need a long wig, a fake beard, and an healthy love of Creedence.

- Steve Zissou from “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou”
More Bill Murray. Mimic one of Murray’s most memorable roles with a red cap and blue pajama top (the Speedo is optional). Remember to accessorize with a defeated gait and arrogant attitude and a handgun. Zissou always carries a piece.
