UPDATE: Vogel OUT, Pine IN!
… and who the heck is Mike Vogel?
Those are two questions people paying close attention to the hype surrounding JJ Abrams’ upcoming “Star Trek XI” project are asking themselves today.
IESB reported this week that Vogel, who also stars in Abrams’ upcoming “Cloverfield” project, will most likely be cast as the new Kirk in Abrams’ upcoming “Trek” update. The role was, of course, made famous by William Shatner.
From the IESB report:
“We have been hearing his name for weeks but in the last couple of days the rumor has picked up steam with tips from several inside sources. … Paramount Studios had no comment (of course) and Gersh Agency [Vogel's agency] gave us the “can’t officially comment at this time” comment but that was after asking me nervously where we heard the news.”
What do I think about Vogel? I think that the worst movie he’s been in is “Supercross: The Movie” and the best movie he’s been in is “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.” So, yeah. That’s what I think.
It’s probably too early to tell if Vogel will make a good Kirk. He’s no Matt Damon, and he certainly aint no Bill Shatner.
I do like the rest of the confirmed cast for “Star Trek XI,” which includes “Heroes” star Zachary Quinto as Spock and Zoe Saldana as Uhura. Another rumor is that “Stargate: Atlantis” star Paul McGillon will be cast as Scotty. I like that news a lot better than all this Vogel talk. Beam me up Paul.
Yeh, I like to nerd.

I think Mike will be fine! You can say he is no shatner now, but you have not even seen him do his thing. When people start out working, they do low budge films, so if you are gonna judge him by his first film or so then thats wack. In that case im gonna judge you by your first job, stupid pizza delivery man! If he is Kirk, let him do his thing, then make your comments. Im sure all the Trekys will hate it either way, because
[...] I gotta say that I ‘d rather see Pine as Kirk than that frata-a-touille Mike Vogel. [...]
