Actor Casey Affleck will be in Austin this Wednesday to present his new film “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. The screening is part of the Fantastic Fest, a week-long genre film fest co-sponsored by the boys of Aint it Cool News. The fest kicks off Sept 20. You gotta buy a pricey badge to get in, but you also get to screen tons of new horror, western and sci-fi flicks before anyone else. Cool folks like Patton Oswalt will also be hanging out. Check the fest Web site here for more info.

“Jesse James” is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated movies of the fall in many film fan circles. I know I can’t wait to see it. After catching “3:10 to Yuma” this weekend, I’m ready for another good western. Maybe, just maybe, the flick will play at a Valley theater. It’s kind of an indie, but it does star Brad Pitt.

So, Affleck’s performance in the movie is already being called his best work ever. AICN mastermind Harry Knowles says he’s “friggin f****** amazing.” Judging from the trailers, I can tell that this is probably Affleck’s most mature role yet. Let’s hope he puts those Peter Brady pipes to good use as the coward Robert Ford.

“Jesse James” goes national on Friday. If you make it to Fantastic Fest, e-mail me some pictures. Oh, and punch George Romero in the eye for me.
